Keeping our word to the player.

Kaosi Unini, smiling, in a navy jacket and a striped shirt, in colour, inside an engraved circle of fine rules.

About

I didn't come up through the game club. I came up through paperwork: notary closing packages, quality control, procedures for people I would never meet, and specs for engineers on the other side of the world. It turns out that is much of what a game needs before it gets to be fun. Someone has to know what done means, remember what the team has learned, and catch the error before a stranger does. I'm a producer, writer and researcher. What I care about most is what a player never sees: the promise kept, the build that runs, their magic circle left unbroken. If you never notice me, it went well.

Colophon

There's something about publishing. I didn't know games could be a career until an executive producer told me so one night at a bar, and that one conversation did more for me than any class. Knowledge is power, and most of it is someone writing down the steps. So here are mine, the how-to I wish I'd had: what I did, the order I did it in, the mistakes left in. If it reaches someone who doesn't know this work is open to them, the only step left is the hard one, and the hard one is to start.

A producer's philosophy

We each pursue our own idea of good, and in a life, that's fine. A project with an audience is different. There I believe in saying the standard out loud, on paper and in the room, so the team can set the bar before a player has to. Most of keeping your word is not forgetting it; the rest is doing it as well as you can for the person counting on you. What are you striving for? It's the question that keeps us focused.

The shop

Kaosi Unini designed and wrote this site and made every decision in it. Claude (Anthropic) drafted entries from his records and built the press, the pipeline and the checks, working inside KaosOS under his direction. Teammates are credited on each case.

I live in Dallas, and the next degree on my list is a master's in applied industrial-organizational psychology or an MBA in organizational behavior. I will ruminate on just about anything. I play Teamfight Tactics whenever classes and clients leave an evening free. I bake sweet things, read short fiction, and am always training for the next marathon, though a long day in a museum stretches the legs as well. In the kitchen I'm nearer to Alton Brown than to a critic: a food scientist, never a snob, whatever my friends may say. My first crush, at six, was Rachael Ray. It moved to Bobby Flay soon after and to this day has remained so. I am always looking for more creative work to put on my plate. Want your name in the press? Etch me a sketch.
